The war had heated up on the streets of The City of Demons as Lucas, Jasper, Chisoutsa and Roger had started their fight against the soul breakers. Lucas and Jasper had found the hidden location where Valentine and Wararth had been basing themselves and had uncloaked the area. Lucas spoke into the ear piece to Jasper who was in the outside section fighting the soul breakers with Chisoutsa and Roger.
“I’m entering the area now to see where Valentine and Wararth are now. Keep the soul breakers outside busy. I need time to find him and make sure he doesn’t move,” he told him.
Jasper nodded and pushed back next to Roger and Chisoutsa who were fist fighting with two dozen soul breakers attacking. They had a similar dress to Valentine. Dressed in purple coats and some were in blue coats armed with swords and pistols. They were quick and deadly foes that carried a lot of energy in them. Chisoutsa head butted one and turned to Jasper.
“There’s more coming from over the other streets. I’m not sure how long we can keep on going like this. We need back up!” she shouted towards him.
“Well fuck I know that too. Lucas is in there trying to knock off the head or keep Valentine prisoned up in there. We don’t have much firepower left, it’s all been used up now,” Jasper shouted back.
Roger smashed into a few soul breakers and throwing one of the bodies into four others as he grunted and marched towards them with no fear in his eyes. He turned around saw the army of four hundred soul breakers coming across the streets and heading straight for the three of them.
“Chisoutsa, I think the moment has come. We might have to go inside and find Lucas. It’s getting too much,” Jasper cried out to her.
Roger held out his long broadsword in front of the hordes of soul breakers charging down towards him and he ran into the danger swinging and slashing his way through them. Pulling several heads to the ground and stomping on them with his boot. He turned around with shades of blood on his face knowing at he was outnumbered in the crowds of hundreds.
“Even I will say that’s insane to see,” Chisoutsa said watching Roger in the battle against the soul breakers.
The pair started to rush towards Roger as more soul breakers came into firing rounds at Chisoutsa and Jasper as they dodged the bullets pushing their way forwards. They watched Roger being knocked to the ground and a number of guns pointed at his head ready to fire as the despair came upon Chisoutsa and Jasper. Four soul breakers bashed the pair to the ground when Jasper hit his head and was knocked out cold where Chisoutsa picked him up and knowing their time was up. A loud noise was heard from the other side of the main city block as four figures appear with a army of hundreds of people on the streets.
“Charles? Allegheri, Frithdar and Alan Richards?” she cried excited.
“We’re here Chisoutsa! I promised your father that I would watch over you and I will never break that promise. Everyone target the soul breakers and push them back. Protect the ones down there at all cost!” Charles shouted towards his army of local people.
The local army of people run down with used swords and guns firing at the soul breakers. They were everyday people who wanted to fight for what they believed in. Allegheri and Frithdar rushed down the street as Frithdar unleashed a fire ball at the armies of soul breakers around Roger the Barbarian. Allegheri stopped to help Chisoutsa with Jasper from the ground and carried them over to an old park bench where they laid him down.
“We have been busy with rounding up the local people. You can say they wanted to help in return for all you have done for them over the years. Where’s Chris and where is Lucas?” Allegheri asked.
“Lucas is inside with Valentine and Chris is somewhere around here. He’s with Wizard and Mr. Umezu,” she answered.
“He’s in good hands with the wizard. We have to go inside to find Lucas he’s in real danger if he confronts him by himself. Charles and Alan have discovered some of the power supplies have been repaired and we are not sure how that happened. They will inform us of any updates.”
Chisoutsa watched Roger lead the local group of people attack the soul breakers and she turned around to Allegheri for a moment, “They’re not just doing it for me are they?” she asked him
“No, your father held a special place in this city’s history. He will not be forgotten by those fighting today and tomorrow,” Allegheri replied.
Across a number of streets away, Wizard, Mr. Umezu and myself had arrived at where Censilo kept his own headquarters in the days that he ruled. We had noticed there was noises from the battle of the soul breakers but away from Valentine’s eye we were able for a while to work on our own case.
“Is that the gift, that large huge cover covering something where the building used to be?” Wizard asked pointing it out to me and Mr. Umezu.
“It’s the only thing there. The Government Square flatten the whole building after it was destroyed and left it as it was. I heard Charles was thinking of turning it into a park or garden the last time I heard,” Mr. Umezu replied.
I walked over with the pair and the three of us helped pull off the covers a it was quite large over what it was hiding in somewhat plain view. What was revealed was a median sized space ship with a slide door that started to open up.
“A space ship, now that’s something I wasn’t able to crack in my time,” Mr. Umezu noted about his career.
We all carefully stepped into the space ship and there was a large screen to the side of the controls of the space ship, to the left there was seats for a number of people to sit. The screen itself started to blink with a message. Wizard touched the screen and the mystery commander appeared on it.
“He doesn’t look so strange from before,” Mr. Umezu said nudging me.
“This is one of our standard ships I able to bring to you from the commission’s fleet. In the systems there are documents to transform regular full body time machines into travelers into space too. This will help the war in your efforts to travel easier. You must make sure that your team stays strong and to be quick. Time for all is running out and your worlds will disappear if you fail. Think of this as a kind gift from people who know you well now. Goodbye,” spoke the commander.
“That still doesn’t tell us more about him but I’m very thankful for this tech he gave us. Of course I’m not going to be making money from it. Maybe down the track if this war ends,” replied Mr. Umezu cheekily.
He sat in the front seats and checked the controls of the ship and worked out how to fly it, “Controls are pretty basic, I’m guessing they picked something really simple for us non flyers to use. Control stick to move it around, some buttons above me to stable the ship if the journey is rough. I think there should be problems using it.”
“We need to go and find the others. I can hear someone in the other parts of the city. It doesn’t sound to me Chris,” Wizard said.
“We can both go but I want Mr. Umezu to do something with the ship first,” I told Wizard.
Mr. Umezu turned around getting out a cigar still looking over the space ship, “What is that?” he asked.
“I need you to send a message to Daniel Phoenix and Hayden Norman to help solve the case of the commander and who he is. They should access to any information via the computer systems thanks to this person rebooting and giving power back to the Hyper Camp. We just don’t have the time to figure out ourselves.”
“I can do that and work out how the ship flies too. You two get your asses out there and make sure those young Xtreme Squad members don’t do something stupid,” Mr. Umezu noted.
Together Wizard and I stepped out of the space ship and started our trek over to where the others were and hoping that the battle area was under control.
Lucas Walken was deep inside the damaged building that Valentine and Wararth was hiding in. He was found creeping along the top roof above where the pair was discussing about the war. He stood to the side of the roof making sure he didn’t make any noise and looked down at one of the cracks in the roof to get a picture of where they were in the room. He kept the his light blue club staff with the spikey end to his right side staying still and listened in.
“Your war effort is impressive but your desire to trap them on a planet may fireback,” Wararth the ghost lord informed Valentine.
The author smiled at the ghost lord tossing his head at the suggestion and putting his hands in his coat pockets, “I doubt it, even if for some chance they find the transport, they are going to be limited. The Universe portals allowed mass transporting of many people and I can’t afford that if they decide to use the public people of their worlds to fight too.”
“You have killed plenty of people in the City of Demons. Most of them very much fear even your name. How do you plan to defeat the author in the war? He’s still alive and survived after your attack on him in your tower. Do you really what you’re doing?”
“A writer never gives away the ending of his story. He is stronger than I expected and he has grown during the war. My desire is to break him down, let him watch each world of his burn and see the toll in his eyes. There are many layers in a war, different people working on different plans. It’s not clear cut as you may think. The soul breakers take the form of a person’s worst nightmare hence some people see silver machines that are known to the City of Demons and to some even alien life forms, I bet Mr. Phoenix got a shock out of that,” grinned Valentine to himself.
“They will all push you to a corner. Every war ends like that, what will you do?”
“That’s when I will make my move on him, the author in the war. The war is about quickly destroying their worlds and controlling them. By the time the end comes they would have run out of steam and the one that stand will the weakest link – the author. He can write all the characters he wants but the man himself is battled scared from mental illness. He will fall easily,” Valentine explained.
Wararth wandered and floated around in the room thinking the orginal soul breaker’s plans. He was interested. He was the oldest of the lords in Chisoutsa’s world and wanted to know more about this background.
“You have a mental illness too, like the author? But then went to the darkness of the book that you hold in your hands,” he asked.
“Yes, I suffered the plain of being a writer in my time and I died a lonely death. Through the power of the Author’s War book I become so much more. I become a true writer, a true leader of everything that the mind can create. I didn’t give in to my depression, I just became the darkness that opened up inside me and now look at me.”
“But you lost your soul and your own personality in exchange to be a master author? That is a large cost to pay Blackburn,” Wararth reminded him.
“Is it really? I just don’t understand why the other author doesn’t see the good in that. He skates on the thin ice of his depression and even looks into my world and yet there is a part of him that wants to save himself from his own downfall, to save himself from his own end. How does that make any sense is beyond my mind.”
Wararth until this point had known that Valentine had problems inside his head but now knew he was beyond help himself and the true darkness of how he thought. He was dealing with someone more powerful and unthinkable than he had imagined.
Lucas stepped around the roof top and cracks was increasing without him knowing. He held onto his club staff and moved around quietly. One of the crack broke through and Lucas fell down straight down to where Valentine and Wararth was. His club staff slide over to the other side of the room in the corner. Valentine picked him up and dropped him on the ground.
“We have a surprise guest. Nothing to fear if you fight like your father did. The son who the great Jonathan Walken forgot,” Valentine said to Lucas.
“He never forgot me. You are under arrest by the Xtreme Squad. You must end this war if you don’t you will lose this in the end. No one will be giving up like you said earlier,” Lucas told him.
Valentine came up to Lucas’s face with a deadly voice, “They will Lucas, the same soul runs through the author and he doubts his movements and he doubts his own life. When he questions his life part of you does the same too.”
“Everyone has their doubts and so do you. My father never doubted our ability to win this war and that’s the strength that I need. Do you have own doubts?” Lucas asked Valentine.
The dark author smiled and turned away from the Xtreme Squad leader he looked at the Author’s War book and he placed it on a table that was near some chairs.
“I have no doubts but only the knowledge is that if this war is played out all of you will fall one by one. I don’t fear you at all.”
The main doors started to shake which made Lucas, Valentine, and Wararth turn around to see the group of myself, Wizard, Chisoutsa, Allegheri, Frithdar, Alan Richards, and Roger the Barbarian coming inside.
Wararth stood forward in guard while Valentine stepped back towards his faithful book. Wararth grew into a larger version of himself and started to move the table and chairs up in the air and they flew across the room at the group. The group shielded themselves while I took a run at= Valentine making sure he didn’t escape this time. I charged at him and pushed him over and we fought on the ground pushing each other around. Lucas turned to the Author’s War book in the middle and ran after it. He slide across the floor and grabbed the book. Wararth turned towards Lucas with the book and for a moment Lucas for some reason decided to open the book. Valentine and I turned to see what was happening.
“He’s opening the book. Don’t you open the war!” Valentine yelled.
The Author’s War book was opened and Lucas was flown straight back into the side of the wall and fell down hitting his head. The pure energy and power unleash trapping Wararth, “What is happening to me! No! No!” he cried in pain.
“My god, “Allegheri replied standing with the others watching the scene.
Wararth started to split up into pieces and a boom was felt as he disappeared from sight. The book was lying in the middle of the room with a portal of dark energy. Valentine pushed me off from him and he hurried over to the book and stood above it.
“You see why you can’t this war. The book and I are the same. It’s power is too great for anyone of you to challenge it. None of you weak characters can stop the book and what it can do,” Valentine warned everyone in the room.
“Expect for another author. One that can try to defeat it’s own power,” I reminded him coming to my feet again.
Valentine turned around and grinned. He kicked one side of the book to close it and the dark energy disappeared into it and was safe from anyone.
“You nearly lost your friend Lucas over there. You can’t control this. If you were more like me you might have a chance but you are changing. I’m working on that,” he noted to me.
“You are surrounded now and there is no escape,” Allegheri explained to him.
“If I don’t leave, the author is going to read my book. Don’t tempt me, I’m not in the mood for your games. I have better things to do and the war will rage on if you like it or not.”
It was too dangerous for me to be the same room as him and the rest of the group knew it. Valentine nodded and headed out a side door with The Author’s War book in hand. There was much disappointment in the entire group that they had let him get away from Chisoutsa’s world and that war couldn’t have ended sooner. I came up to Wizard and Allegheri o talk to them while Frithdar and Chisoutsa went over to help Lucas up from the floor.
“What do we do now?” I asked Allegheri.
“The war is still going on in other parts of the universe. I would believe that Roger here would like to return to this home and then you should carry yourself to LegoLand and find out what happened to the Legomen. The City of Demons should be able to hold off the Soul Breakers for the time being but Valentine’s strength is building. The mood of the people is darkening with every move he makes. I feel he is feeling off their own depression and that is why he is growing in power.”
“Mr. Umezu is working on the ship as we speak and I can go there. Would anyone apart from Wizard like to come?” I asked to everyone.
Chisoutsa stepped forward, “Sarge is where Roger’s home is and I have a score to settle with her. She’s been running from me for ages and with Wararth dead for good I will get this bitch.”
“Right. We better go now and see what will happen. Roger will come with us of course. I hope the Kingdom of Evermore is still strong,” I replied knowing inside that wasn’t the case.
On Earth, the case of the mystery commander had reached Daniel and Hayden’s desk. The pair had been helping the cause against the Soul breakers in their own way such as working on weakness points and working on plans to block them at certain towns and cities and keeping them back. They were at an underground base, just of a few left from the war. Daniel was in the room with his friends Hayden, Jack, Doug his former boss from NASA and his oldest friend Sonia. Doug was a man in his fifth’s overweight and dressed in a casual shirt and pants as he looked at the security camera footage of the commander rooming the streets of the City of Demons. Sonia was dressed in a black tight outfit where she pointed on the screen when noticed something.
“He’s looking for someone you can tell that. The footage shows that he has time traveled twice to this period. Do we know why he had a blue glow about him?” she asked everyone.
“He’s not a ghost or a spirit because he transported the space ship. Ghosts can’t do that.” Hayden the expect in Paranormal spirits replied.
“He’s not alien too. He’s a true blue human here,” Daniel the expert in UFO’s and aliens replied as well.
Doug turned around at Daniel thinking about the commander, “You spoke to a man called Cody Cyber right? He’s back in LegoLand at the moment fighting with his family. Now you chatted to him about a story about he time traveled between his home and the one where this City of Demons is. He talked about a space station he came to. Do you think it’s a person that he might have known?”
“That’s a great theory Doug. We should contact them via the network system here. It’s actually a good thing that the planets are in the same universe because I don’t think we would be able to do it. Hayden and Jack contact Percy Cyber and his son now,” Daniel asked them.
The right mega screen started to contact the Cybers and soon enough both Percy and Cody appeared on the screen, “Phoenix and Norman, what a surprise to get a call from you. How is the war going from your end? We are our struggles here and the old Legomen are not as fit as they used to be,” Percy said giving a small wave at the start.
“We have a case to solve and we think your son can help. Sending footage of what we trying to solve. Do you know this man?” Daniel asked.
Both the Cyber family members viewed the commander in the Hyper Camp talking to myself, Wizard, Mr. Umezu when Cody looked somewhat worried.
“Yes, he was a commander that worked for what I believed was a Space commission. I have no idea of what the name of it was but I had to break in to their time travel section at the heart of their commission headquarters in order to continue my journeys. The world itself was very nice but for some reason I felt I couldn’t stay for long.” Cody explained.
“Hayden here, Sonia is hacking through all the log entries of all the computer networks with the Time Cruisers and the database of Scienceworks to find out more about this universe. I hope you don’t mind.”
“No problem, we’ll open up our entire database too, our time machines keeps files of where we traveled to in the past and we do log entries on where we have traveled. Even time period we have been to have information on other universes that we haven’t been to. It’s very useful in these cases.”
Dough stepped forward to the right screen while looking at the footage at the left screen, “Do you know the blue glow that outlines the commander? Has he time travelled to get to the City of Demons to drop off the space ship?”
Percy studied the footage of the commander signaling the space ship to appear in the time period of the City of Demons and nodded, “Yes he has time travelled twice by what I can see but there is something worryingly about the blue glow. It’s very rare to see and what we have not suffered from it from our travels despite a couple times when we had our own clashes with Vulture and Zare. They were our troublemakers so to speak.”
Sonia was busy looking through the files of the commander’s world while Jack rubbed his chin, “Was the commander in trouble?” he asked confused.
“Well yes he is, the blue glow in time travel means the time line is breaking heavily. His own time line that is. In the report you were given did Chris know who the commander was?” Percy asked.
Daniel quickly looked at the files with Doug and Dough turned to him shaking his head no, “No he never knew the person at all.”
“My strong suggestion is this person is a future character of Chris’s. This means a story he has yet to write about that takes place in the future. Most likely after the war that he wrote about,” Percy explained.
“Bingo! Got the information about the commander’s world,” Sonia called out from another computer in the busy underground base.
“Transfer the information to the big screen and to the Cybers please,” Dough asked her.
Sonia moved and transferred the information to the screen and started to read the details in fine print, “The name of the commander I couldn’t find but where he works is called the International Matrix Commission. It was named after a man with a surname called Matrix who created the first fleet of space ships and created the Commission to protect humans from galaxy harm as what the file says. The ship that we were given was a Maris Mk II a standard ship with limited firepower used to carry people across short distances. Now here I cracked the case file on Cody Cyber, he I wanted for questioning and using their top secret time travel system that are portal beamed technology. Does anyone what that is?”
“We use machines to travel in time and that allows to hide easier when we travel too and we can carry people. Their technology is based upon beaming people into wormholes and they magically appear on the side. Part of the problem as this commander discovered was that he appeared in in a middle of a major war without knowing and could have been killed. I expect he is highly trained?”
“Yes, very highly trained in war by the looks of his files but still no name. I guess it doesn’t matter now.”
Percy moved around in his seat next to Cody trying to think more about the case, “I’m a wanted a criminal. I knew I did the wrong thing but I hope maybe I can fix this one later on, if we ever have the chance.” Cody sighted.
“Why do you think the commander and this Matrix commission helped us out?” Percy asked.
“If this is a future character of Chris’s than they must have researched the war the first time the commander visited the City of Demons. They must have found out that if the war is lost than their own existence never happened. They decided to time travel to a point of the war when they could help out in order to save themselves,” Daniel explained.
“This is interesting, according to the Matrix Commission, time travel is a top secret program that the public doesn’t know about and that it has only been used three times before. It’s against their law for even high ends officials to use it. After a meeting of discussions they decided that time travel was the only way to send help as they put it to the war. They were also mindful that they didn’t want to say too much to Chris and others and that they didn’t want their technology to be used by profit,” Sonia read.
“They must have looked into Scienceworks and Mr. Umezu on that line of thought,” Hayden noted.
Daniel nodded and keyed in some notes into the computer, “Here’s the first text that commander says ‘I’m a Commander and I’m a friend. To you I know you but one day you will know more about me than myself at times. I’m here to help but I’m running out of time here’ See how he states his time line is running out. Has his time line been spent?
“No, not yet but there must been grave concerns about their future and the war too. Their power would drained due to the time line disappearing and that maybe only a single space ship can be sent in. It was a dangerous mission that this commander went through,” Percy replied.
“Here’s the second text read here. It’s important that we know what they were thinking during this time ‘I rebooted the power systems here so you can contact the friends that you know. There is a gift from the commission, the people that I used to work from. It is important that you get to it before the other author in the war finds it. Remember to find the gift that the commission gave to you. It has been left in the area called Centrax Building, the place where Censilo was defeated. The author should know the location and Mr. Umezu here’ – he has looked into their files much the same way as we have”
“That’s true. It wouldn’t be so hard for them. It is likely their technology is either different or more advanced seeming they have mastered space travel,” Percy nodded looking at the notes on his end.
“Here’s the final text that he said to the three of them, ‘This is one of our standard ships I able to bring to you from the commission’s fleet. Goodbye’ – any thoughts on that?” Hayden said sending it through to Percy.
“His world is feeling the pressure was likely time was running out on him. If the time line is too weak than the line is snapped meaning he would have died in time travel. He needed to go in, get his job and get out quickly. “
“Thanks for all your help Percy and Cody. We have work to do here,” Daniel said to the Cybers.
“Glad to be of help to you and stay strong like the commander said,” Percy answered signing off from the big screen.
Daniel turned to the others in the underground base and clapped his hands, “Well I think this means we have a future character that is depending on us to win the war for their own sake. It’s quite truly amazing that this has happened. If we wasn’t for Cody traveling there by chance and breaking their law, this wouldn’t have happened and Valentine might have trapped everyone on the planets with no way of contact. His plan backfired,” said Daniel explaining the case results.
“For a first time Valentine was outgunned by something that happened in the future. By what I have read that he has studied all of us from Chris but not characters he has yet to write in the future,” Doug replied.
“That’s right. We can send the report findings to Chris who is currently in the Maris Mk II ship,” Daniel agreed nodding.
“If we tell Chris about a future character that he writes couldn’t that damage the future in the way he writes this character?” Jacked asked the group.
“I doubt it. We know very little about the universe and he will too. He’s going to write about space one day if the war is won,” Daniel explained.
“How is there a future of his writings? I mean that must mean we do win this war in the end,” Jack argued with Daniel.
“Look, this Valentine person has been alive for a long time and for some reason that has decided that this time period was the one he would use to start the war. I mean he created this powerful book that he masters. It is likelt there is a future time line to everyone here and that time itself is like that. I believe you have to believe it?” said Doug trying to answer the question.
“I never thought you would wander into the lack of fact thinking. You’re been hanging around Daniel too much,” Hayden joked.
“Maybe I have been,” laughed Doug to himself.
Daniel and Hayden sent off the report finding to the Maris Mk II ship and the pair turned around to face the others, “We make a pretty good team don’t we?” Hayden grinned at Daniel.
“Everyone here makes a great team member. How do you think Chris and the others will be in the land of Evermore. It’s just a world of swords and castle there. You think Valentine will be there?” Daniel wondered.
“No clue. Besides we need to work on pushing back the soul breakers. There’s no time to site back now,” Hayden replied. The team went back to aiding the world.
The journey of the Maris Mark II ship from the City of Demons to the Land of Evermore via space was a comfortable ride. Chisoutsa elected to fly it and was impressive with her skills and picking up things quickly, obviously having learnt those skills from her father, Professor Walken. Roger directed Chisoutsa to land at a local inn a few miles away from the Kingdom of Evermore. We received the report back from Daniel Phoenix about the mystery of the commander and that Roger’s good friends Walter, Levi, and Duncan was at the inn waiting for their leader to return. The ship safetly landed in a desert area near the inn and the doors opened up, Roger walked out first followed by Chisoutsa and myself.
“Will this Maris Mark II whatever it is be safe here?” Chisoutsa asked me.
“It’ll be safe. No one here would know what it is and how to fly it. I don’t think Valentine or the soul breakers would be interested in it.” I replied.
The winter chill came upon us as Roger held out his broadsword and glared across his land with a strong and concerned face, “War has torn the land apart and I have been away from here for too long”
Wizard came out of the ship and heard Roger’s sorrow, “We are here now and we here to make sure this is stopped. Have faith in your band too you know. They have kept the flag of Evermore flying in your missing time”
“They need me now. Come with me and we will find the inn together,” Roger told the group.
It took a hour’s walk to the inn where we were to meet the rest of the band. When we arrived it was muddy tracks all around the small town where the inn was. The public watched us past them with people pointing at me and talking about me.
“It’s the author, it’s him. The man who doubts his life.” One voice I could hear in the small crowd.
I kept my head down while Wizard watched me when Roger pointed at the front door to the inn and we all entered inside. There were crowds of people drinking and murmuring to each other. The eyes watched me at first and then they noticed that Roger the Barbarian had returned. The one who saved them once before with his band – the wizard, elf, and dwarf.
Walter, Levi, Duncan saw us and they came up to greet. Levi shook Roger’s hand and smiled towards his old friend.
“It is so good to see you again Roger. We’ll have missed you greatly,” Levi said.
“About time you showed up, the kingdom is nearly buried alive by this devil woman?”
“You mean the bitch called Sarge?” Chisoutsa asked.
“Yeah she’s been turning people to what they call vampires. She’s stormed the castle and has blocked us out now,” Duncan said.
Roger was concerned and turned to his deputy Walter, “Why hasn’t the people come to your aid? They should know that the power is in the people and not in the hands of one person.”
“There is no faith because of the process of the war. They don’t want to fight because of the author’s doubts in himself. How can they fight for someone who thinks we are going to lose in the end? Someone whose mind is clouded in his depression,” Walter explained.
Wizard turned to me and pulled me aside, “Walter is on your side but the people aren’t. Many people are going to die if we don’t get them on our side. I’ve known you since you were a child and I know the hard road you have taken. Maybe if you told the people what you been through it might help understand and it might help you too.”
I bite my lip thinking about what Wizard said to me. I didn’t really want to go out in front of strangers and tell my life story but I knew I had to do something. I turned back to Roger, “Roger, how important is it to have the people of the Kingdom fight for us?” I asked him.
“We’ll never get into castle and even with both Walter and Wizard’s magic we would just make the castle drawbridge before we die. We have to have the people help fight for us. We only have swords and shields here. We are not like Chisoutsa’s world. We don’t want a world of bombs and guns. Evermore is a land of peace and learning from the past, the nuclear past we had. You understand don’t you?” Roger asked me.
“I do. I’ll go outside and talk to the people,” I answered him nodding nervously.
“Be rave and strong and help show the people,” Roger replied patting me on the shoulder.
The group came outside of the inn where the people of the town and the Kingdom of Evermore was carrying their horses around the place, talking outside their homes and looking after the animals. I looked around and saw a barrel and decided to climb on top of it as I felt the hinting drops of rain come upon me. I said to myself that I really hated the rain, especially the heavy rain that you get caught in but I knew that I was caught in something was it wasn’t rain. It was far worse than that.
“Attention all,” boomed Walter waving his staff that spark a glow of light where some of the people turned around and listened.
“Listen now!” yelled Roger which made Wizard jumped back in a fright and I nearly fell off the barrel which would have been funny to watch but not to me.
With the angry barbarian’s face everyone in the town turned around with crowds coming up. There looked to be nearly three hundred people lining up to see me and maybe more. I was very nervous and I wasn’t sure what I was doing was right. I just knew I had to do something now to help Roger and the band. The crowd became silent and Roger and Wizard turned to me with the others in our group watching on. The rain was falling down on my face as I looked at my wet shoes thinking of what to say and I looked up to everyone.
“I’m not good about talking about my deepest feelings so let me tell you a story because that is what I am truly am in my heart. Some call me an author, some call me a writer but I’m really just a storyteller that lives a life outside of the struggles of my reality. I lived a life inside a box you can say with my mother and in that box I created fantasies and tale to live out. I journeyed with this group called the Legomen fighting battles against their villain called Zare. I sailed on pirate ships, rode on horses across the plains with knights and raced in time machines with the Cyber family when I was little. They played the role of the family I never had.
In this what is called The Author’s War. This other writer called Valentine he is a man who crossed into the darkness of his pain and anger in his life. He accepted his own depression and his own destruction and so he created this book of amazing powers that is beyond the understanding of us all. To feed his own sick soulless mind he doesn’t want me to die by force. He wants to take everything that I have created away from my reality and let me watch it burn. He wants me to be buried so deep in my pain and depression that his ultimate goal is for me to kill myself, the same path that my mother took. That is the true goal of a soul breaker, is not kill them by a sword or a gun or a bomb. But to build the doubts in my mind and my soul, to make myself question the point of my life and to see me take my own life so he can control you all in the end.
I will be honest with all you. I have questioned my own life. I have wandered far and width inside my mind asked myself what is the point in my life and yet I don’t have the answers for that. Why is it when people say they are there for me but all I feel is loneliness and despair? Why is it when I try to fit with society but yet it has never worked out for me? How do I find the strength in myself to carry on when I feel there is more years of pain and suffering and hardship ahead for me? Valentine is the symbol of all mental illness and of all the questions that we ask ourselves daily.
I stand here with no answers to my life at this point and I know that following someone who doubts himself is hard to understand. This is the battle for Evermore, think of your families, think of the future and everything you have fought for to get this far. Remember the times when the great barbarian, wizard, elf, and dwarf single handedly defeated the powerful and fearful Graford the dark wizard. By going out and helping in this war you are also helping me understand my own life and pushing me towards that answer to what I’m searching for. How am I going to defeat my depression and how can I defeat Valentine. My journey is much like the Kingdom of Evermore it is a struggle and a fight and you don’t know what will happen in the future but one day the light will come and that peace will come to you all. This is my story to you all. We must try at least in The Author’s War to win this and search for the answers we are looking for.”
The rain was coming down hard in the small town. The mud was terrible and the pathway was a mess to see. The crowd was silent and so was the band with Wizard and Chisoutsa. It seemed my words didn’t work and I lowered my head feeling half broken .A elderly man came up to the front of the crowd and put a small sword down in front of me where I was standing on the barrel.
“I’ll fight for Evermore. Got nothing else to lose for myself,” he told me.
A second younger women came up with a long dagger and placed it down next to the sword and stood next to the old man, “I’ll join Roger. I’ll fight for Evermore”
I turned up my head to see dozens of people coming up and putting down their weapons in front wanting to fight for their land. Wizard turned to Roger with a friendly smile while Roger nodding with a firm face. He had his people behind him and he knew it was time for him to lead them to take back what was theirs. It was time to fight for Evermore.
