Chapter 2 – Xtreme Squad

Allegheri checked Mr. Umezu’s hand to see if he was alive or not when they found him on the bed in The Tower of Angels. The bed was a Queen size with a small window above it with old paintings around the room. It was colder than the hall room and it collected dust over time.

“He’s still alive by the feel of him. But he’s in a coma of some sort. I’m not sure how he came to it. He doesn’t like look he’s had any external wounds to suggest he fell into a coma because of that,” he replied to Frithdar and Lucas. Frithdar leaned over the body and pointed something out to Lucas.

“You can do this for a change. Seeming you are still learning the wizard art, this is a handy tool for you in battle or after. Put your hand out over a body and shake your thumb five times. When you do that the body will glow a color to tell you what has happen to him or her” Frithdar said.

Lucas moved over Mr. Umezu and held out his hand and shook his thumb five times. There was silence for a while until the body glowed yellow for a few seconds before turning back to normal. “What does yellow mean?” he asked Frithdar.

Frithdar turned to Allegheri and they both nodded their heads,” It means a magic spell or a power was cast upon him. Someone wanted him to sleep for a long time. To break it is quite simple. The tone of the colour yellow was light meaning the spell is simple to cast or was cast by a weaker wizard, angel or demon etc. If it was a dark colour it would have mean going to find something or someone powerful enough to break it.” Allegheri explained.

Frithdar covered Mr. Umezu’s closed eyes with one hand and waved his second hand around it. The body glowed yellow continued for a while until it disappear from his legs up to his head, “The spell’s off. He will awake in a few seconds and we should get some answers.” Mr. Umezu blinked several times and saw the trio looking down at him on the bed. “I haven’t done anything wrong, not that I can think of. How did you find me here? Did Chisoutsa sniff me out again?”

“No she didn’t.  We had word about your appearance from a rare cigar and a myth called The Tower of Angels.,” Allegheri explained.

Mr. Umezu was still lying on the bed smiling to himself and thinking about his latest escape from death yet. “I had heard the myth as you put it of The Tower of Angels but I thought it was bullshit like the rest of you.” he replied to the trio.

“So why were you in a coma? Did you do anything to the Angels?” Lucas asked sitting on the bed.

“Do I look like that guy that could fight a group of Angels? No I don’t. Besides we were discussing a business deal of using their plans and maps” Mr. Umezu answered with a smile.

“What plans and maps were they?” Frithdar asked.

“They are really good at doing spells and maps for building things but they can’t build things to save themselves.  That’s where I come in,”

“That’s where you come in and take their gold and money, right?” Allegheri replied.

” Now, now! It’s a good deal we have. These were buildings and light weapons for self-defence. Now that I don’t work at Scienceworks anymore I have to look for new projects to keep myself busy.”

“Working on business and we were the ones who took you out of the coma. Two last questions, who put you in this coma and what do the Angels look like?”

“They looked like real angels, white wings with silver linings, easy going mob. They do look like they are going to faint if you yell at them. They rushed me into this room saying something was going on upstairs in the Angel’s Gates. I have no clue what that’s about but I wanna know! They said they would wake me up if things improve,” Mr. Umzeu answered back.

Allegheri looked around the dusty room and thought to himself, ” They must be hiding from the Black Angels. The fact that they are protecting you means you are a great asset to them. Whatever they are building must be important for them. It’s not in their nature to go out of their way to protect people. Humans are most likely to be protected by Angels, while Wizards are the next ranked.”

“Most people knew I was an important asset. Did you think Alan Richards sat at Scienceworks and made all that technology? We have to stay here and get my business deal done.”

“We should drag you back to the City of Demons and finish this off but the fact this news could turn into something dangerous out of The Tower of Angels and the fact we know very little we should investigate it further,” Allegheri said.

A tap on the door was heard and the four of them grew worried. Mr. Umezu sat up on the bed to hear a noise from the other side, “Hello, Ummm did someone lock the inside. I hope nothing is nasty inside of that room. Is Mr. Umzeu still asleep?”

“Who is that guy…” Lucas asked as he walked up to the door and started to move the piece of wood away from the door.

Jasper, Kuzuki, Yuri and Mamoru was sitting in the new court yard section at the Government Square waiting for Charles Thompson to appear from a meeting.

“Remember Jasper to behave, this is not a meeting for you three to have your sexual tochy feely moments. Kuzuki and Yuri I know you are more behaved than he is. There’s something odd about this meeting that I’m worried about,” Mamoru told the group.

“Why would that be?” Yuri asked her.

“It’s just the nature of this visit. I don’t think he’s told any of his government minsters about this. I see him coming now,” Mamoru.

Charles came down the stairs and smiled at the Xtreme Squad as he came to them, “Welcome all, Lucas told you all that I needed to talk to you about something.”

“Yeah man, what’s the problem you got?” Jasper asked.

“Well the problem is Jasper is that I don’t know if it is one or not. I can’t tell,” Charles replied sitting down in the court yard gardens seats.

“Is it serious?” Kuzuki asked him.

“You might have noticed that some of the city light buildings were gone last night,” Charles told them.

Jasper nodded with a grin, “Yeah I saw them with Kuzuki, what’s that about?”

“Over the past few weeks our electricity grids have been experiencing loss of power from unknown causes. All of my ministers are not worried and believe it’s due to the old grids in the west of the city that are still used. But all of them having been losing power to some degree. The ones in the east which was invested by Scienceworks and then by Censilo himself when he was planning his takeover of the city have been drained too which those grids are bulletproof. I’m just worried that this is the start of something big,” Charles explained.

Mamoru sat down next to him and thought for a moment, “it’s not related to our first case, the disappearance of Akuryou?’

“I doubt it but we have to keep our options open. He is still wanted for his crimes and that his disappeared has been marked as an unknown death, seeming he hasn’t returned for a long time now. I know that your Cody Cyber might be able to help seeming he’s quite knowledgeable in other worldly areas. Just keep this under your hat and we’ll work on this together,” Charles suggested to the group.

“We’ll do,” Jasper nodded.

Mamoru turned to Charles when Jasper took the girls to a side and whispered in his ear, “What do you really think it is?”

“Since Mr Umezu pulled his stunt of using technology to connect to other worlds there has been increase usage of power from the grids,” he whispered back.

“You think its Cody or Umezu doing this?”

“Couldn’t be Cody. He’s pretty much trapped inside this world for a long time. Umezu with his past history you never know but he’s smart enough not to rock the boat with my government so those two are off my list. Could it be our disappeared man? He’s lost most of his connections because the Xtreme Squad has gone to work on them so that’s been rubbed out. That leaves us with nothing Mamoru,” Charles said.

Jasper peeked around at the gardens checking out the new areas with the girls, “They could make something like us before we came along. We’re been creating the peace. I wonder how Lucas is getting on with that tower of angels stuff?”

“He’ll be great. His magic is coming along strong. You’ll see,” Yuri answered.

The noise from behind wood was thumping when Lucas peeled back the door to see a young teenager aged angel appear. He was short and jumped back to the three of them watching. He had silver wings and wore a white gown.

“Oh who are you all? Is that the old man who I was expecting to find?” he asked.

“Who are you? Lucas asked holding on his blue magic club just for his protection.

“My name is Zarmal and I’m one of the followers of our angel goodness Nardia the ancient one who walks with us in here. We had heard that you have talking to the dark angels, the ones who broke away from us,” spoke the young angel.

Lucas turned around with Allegheri and Frithdar towards Mr Umezu for an answer, “How would have I know they were part of the bad unit. I got the message from both sides about my plans. Your people wanted extensions done to this leaking old place. How long has been since you updated your tower? Hundreds of years has it?” Mr Umezu snapped back waving his arms in defence.

“We’ll talk about this when we’re done here. Come and take us to your angel goodness. We are good people and even if you don’t believe it, this man is too,” Lucas replied referring to Mr Umezu.

The four of them continued up the long stairs towards a long passage way of grey statues of old angels kept in shadows and darkness. Frithdar wondered about the old angels and asked their new friend, “Who are these people?”

“These were angels who had passed away from long ago. We have remembered them in our own small ways. We keep to ourselves because of our dislike of the current world. Too many darkness has come into the light and we decided to stay within the safety of the tower away from harm,” Zarmal replied.

“Some have said the statues have been whispering as of late. The angels believe it’s because of the wrong doings of the dark angels.”

They arrived into a grey and white lined painted and crafted hall room where the other angels watched Lucas and the others as the angel goodness sat in her chair in the middle of the room. They were about to uncover the secrets of the tower of angels.
